Album #26 – Miriam Makeba

Album #26

This album was very eclectic. It had every style of music that was present in the 60’s in popular music. There were African Folk Songs, Folk Songs, Songs with choirs, songs with female backing singers, songs with male backing singers and even a duet with a laughing man. If you like variety, this album is for you. I really enjoyed how many different styles of music Makeba could pull off.  This album also showcases Makeba’s talent at singing songs in Xoxa (an African dialect notable for it’s clicking sounds). She was best known for this type of singing but the album also showcases her voice. Overall, this album was unique and interesting. Highlights include: The Click Song, Olilili (which features a beautiful choir singing with Makeba) and One More Dance (featuring a laughing male duet partner). Overall, I give this album 4 out of 5 stars.
