Album #31 – Modern Sounds In Country & Western Music

Album #31

This album is very revolutionary. Why? Well, it is because Ray Charles took a genre that he had never performed songs from before and adapted it to his style of music. It was remarkable that Charles could take these songs and mold them into his style. He did this so well that a follow up album was made. The album has ballads and upbeat songs. It was a pleasure to hear Charles’ voice amongst these beautiful, lush arrangements. Like I had mentioned in the first Charles’ album I reviewed, Charles captures the emotion of these songs. He never wrote any of these songs yet somehow he can capture the emotions conveyed in these country songs. Ray Charles took a risk and it payed off. This album has influenced many artists to do the same thing. Some have been successful, some not so successful. But what this shows is that good music has no boundaries. You can take a jazz song and create a rap song out of it (i.e. Cantaloop by US3). Or you can take a country song and turn it into a pop song. This album showed that music was changing for the better. Highlights included: Bye Bye Love, You Don’t Know Me, Just A Little Lovin’, Worried Mind, I Can’t Stop Loving You and Hey, Good Lookin’. Overall, I give this album 4 out of 5 stars.

Next: Green Onions by Booker T. & The MGs!!!
