Album #67 – If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears

Album #67

This album was great. It features their two biggest hits: Monday, Monday and California Dreamin’. Those two songs are two of the greatest songs of the 60’s and they both define that era. The cover is unique because the cover image I have above is very rare because it is banned. The toilet was seen as vulgar. So, there have been three versions of the cover that have covered up the toilet. I don’t know what the big deal is but that’s the music business for you. The harmonies on this album are awesome. The Mamas and The Papas were known for that sound. It made it a pleasure to listen to this album. I loved how they slowed down the song Do You Wanna Dance and made it a ballady-type song. It made the song sad and a bit dark and that made the cover unique. It is very sad that three out of the four members are dead. Denny Doherty is a very familiar face to me because he was the harbourmaster on the kids T.V. show Theodore Tugboat. Denny also lived in Halifax during that time and did a lot of stuff in the Halifax area. I knew him from that before I figured out he was in this group. Other highlights include: Go Where You Wanna Go, Spanish Harlem and You Baby. Overall, I give this album 4 out of 5.

Next: Midnight Ride by Paul Revere and The Raiders
