Album #78 – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

Album #78

What can be said about this album that has not already been said? The cover is iconic. The album is iconic. The album changed the pop music, the music business and radio all at the same time. That cannot be said of any album before or since. Rolling Stone named this album the greatest album of all time. I agree, not because of it’s music but, because of it’s influence. The album is one of my favorite Beatles albums of all time. Almost every song is worth being on this album. Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane could have and should have been on this album. But, that will never happen. The past is the past. The album does have an interesting collection of songs. My least favorite song off the album is When I’m 64. Paul does something here he is good at: corny songs. My favorite song: A Day In The Life. The string crescendo parts used to scare me as a child because they sounded like the buzzing sound a bee or fly makes. Now, I love it. It adds to the song. Everything about this song is pure genius. From Lennon’s vocals to Ringo’s drumming, no song in their catalog comes close except for the Abbey Road/Golden Slumbers Melody. The song is perfect. Even McCartney’s section fits well. The album was a joy to listen to again. I had not listened to it all the way through in a couple of years. Overall, this one deserves to be on the list and if there is one album by The Beatles you should listen to before you die, it is this one. Overall, I give this album 5 out of 5.
