Album #83 – Da Capo

Album #83

I don’t really know what to write about this album. If you really want to know what this band is capable of listen to the track ,one of Love’s biggest hits, Seven And Seven Is. It charted at #33 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1967. It captures what Psychedelic Rock could sound like. Revelation is also a great place to demonstrate psychedelic rock and the unique and creative sounds that were being made by bands at the time. The album’s other track remind me of the sound this band would perfect on Forever Changes (which I am listening to later this week!!!). The other songs were a mixture of Baroque Pop and psychedelic rock. Fitting enough, the album begins and ends with the sound of a harpsichord. Love are not as out there as Captain Beefheart yet not as accessible as Moby Grape. Their sound lies somewhere between the two. The album’s final track, Revelation either was inspired by or inspired The Rolling Stones. I leave you to draw your own conclusions. This album laid the blueprints for Love’s next album, Forever Changes. It is a crucial album in psychedelic rock and Seven And Seven Is remains one of my favourite songs from the 1960’s. Overall, I give Da Capo 4.5 out of 5.
