Album #123 – In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Album #123

I really enjoyed this album. This was one of the biggest selling rock albums of the 1960’s. The title track is their only hit. And, yes, it was even featured on an episode of The Simpsons. What I loved about this band was the different elements of their sound. Lead vocalist, organist and principle songwriter Doug Ingle brought Church-sounding organ playing and Morrisonesque vocals. The drummer Ron Bushy brought a unique drumming style. The bassist and lead guitarist co-wrote one song (Termination) and backing vocals. Lead guitarist Erik Brann also brought a unique guitar style that I identify with 60’s rock. Another example of this style and sound is on Strawberry Alarm Clock’s only hit, Incense and Peppermints. Overall, I was impressed with this band. Each song is good and this band is very tight and knows how to rock.  Each element adds to their sound. I will definitely add this album to my collection and I recommend this album, if only for the climactic title track. Overall, I give this album 4.5 out of 5.
