Album #126 – Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake

Album #126

This album was very interesting. Side one contains six songs that have nothing to do with each other. Side two contains a story. The songs are based off a story called Happiness Stan. At the beginning of each track, there is a spoken word section in which a narrator tells the story. The songs describe the rest. The narrator is speaking in some sort of British gibberish that supposedly he got from the group’s use of slang in their conversations with one another. The spoken word sections were so funny and I laughed out loud. I could not even remotely understand what he was saying. It sounded kind of like double talk and gibberish mixed together. The songs finished telling that section of the story. It was kind of like a musical in that regard only much more funny and better than a musical!!! Side one is much different. Side one contains six songs. Lazy Sunday is one of their biggest hits and reminds me of Ray Davies’ songwriting. It is also very funny and reminds me more specifically of the song, “A Well Respected Man”, by The Kinks. Song of a Baker reminds me of The Who circa 1969. The title track is a great instrumental. Afterglow (Of Your Love) is also very good and a solid toe-tapper. Overall, this album was good but not as good as some of the awesome albums I have heard on the list. Overall, I give this album 4 out of 5.

Next: Music From Big Pink by The Band!!!!
