Album #183 – John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
This album has a soft spot in my heart and mind. It is one of the few albums that I can identify with as a whole. Many of the songs Lennon wrote for this album were a result of the primal scream therapy he was having during this time. Many of the songs talk about being alone,a struggle with identity, and the dark times in one’s life. Some of the songs, such as Mother, are autobiographical. Others were written as result of the therapy. It is one of the saddest albums I have ever heard. Lennon seems to capture depression very well on this record. As someone with mild Aspergers’ Syndrome who struggles with social identity and anxiety, these songs hit home in a way that most songs do not. They capture 100% what I experience and have experienced during the dark periods of my life. I am sure that at one point or another, we can all relate to most of these songs. This, in my opinion, is Lennon’s best solo album because he takes what he is feeling and experiencing and writes deep, meaningful songs about it. For that reason, this album is a musical masterpiece. The only song that did not belong on here was I Found Out. That song feels out of place compared to the rest of the album and is not as good as it could have been. Overall, I give this album 5 out of 5.
