Album #189 – Moondance

Album #189

This album was the perfect album for me to listen to today. It matched the mood I was in and it was musically not too heavy and not too soft. This album is Morrison’s most accessible. Side one’s tracks are all legendary. Side two’s cuts are all gems, waiting to be discovered. He mixes jazz with r&b, gospel, soul and even blues. The result is Morrison’s best album. Many prefer Astral Weeks, but I love this album. Maybe it is the accessibility or the fact that this was his “comeback” album. Whatever the case, this album would define Morrison’s sound for years to come. Astral Weeks is a great album but, it lacks the easy feeling and great songs and arrangements that this album contains. If you want to get into Van Morrison, start with this album. It brings more elements of Morrison’s career and sound to the table than Brown Eyed Girl has or ever will. All this album’s tracks are gems. Overall, I give this album 5 out of 5.
