Album #199 – John Barleycorn Must Die

Album #199

This is my favorite album by the band, Traffic. It was their first album when they reformed in 1970. It is relatively short, with only six songs, but it is one of those albums that is timeless and underrated. I own this album on vinyl and I love the way the cover looks. It is basically a photo of burlap with the album art superimposed over the photo. The songs on here are mostly jazz influenced. There is one track on here, John Barleycorn, which is folk influenced. John Barleycorn is actually a traditional English folk song. They do a good job with their arrangement of this song and it somewhat echoes the sounds of the other big British folk rock bands of that time. I do not have much else to say about this album but it is definitely worth a listen and all of this album’s tracks are amazing. Overall, I give this album 5.5 out of 5.
