Album #207 – There’s A Riot Goin’ On

Album #207

This album was very funky. It was a different sound from the Sly & The Family Stone of the 1960’s. There are drum machines, synthesizers and unique vocals from Sly Stone. It sounds like Stone was high in the studio for most of this album and took the listeners along for the ride. One of my favorite Sly and the Family Stone songs, Family Affair is on this album. I love the mellow sound of it and also the fact that it sounds the opposite of Sly & The Family Stone’s other big hits. There are no harmony vocals or even a horn section on that track or most of the tracks on this album, for that matter. I did not hate this album but it sure got boring pretty fast. I do not have really much else to say about this album except that this album definitely showed the future: disco. I can hear the sounds of disco on this album and one song on this album has the exact same drum beat and sound as George McCrae’s smash disco hit Rock Your Baby. Overall, I give this album 2 out of 5.
