Album #247 – Super Fly
One great thing about Blaxploitation films is that some of those films had amazing soundtracks. The best way for me to describe the Soundtrack to the film Superfly is that it sounds like a mixture of Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On album and Issac Hayes’ Soundtrack to the film Shaft. This is in terms of sound, style and the subject matter within each of this soundtrack’s songs. That is the first thing that came to mind when I listened to this album. Curtis Mayfield’s voice is so good and he sings in falsetto. The themes in the songs that are presented here are not always happy and cause one to think a great deal. That is what I love about this album. It is even more funkier than the Shaft soundtrack and Mayfield’s vocals are so soothing. I really enjoyed listening to this album. Overall, I give it 4.5 out of 5.
