Album #266 – All Directions

Album #266

This album was much better than I expected. I had expected All Directions to sound more like Cloud Nine, the only other Temptations album on this list. But, All Directions sounded much more funky. It features the hit “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone”. But, the song that amazed me was a very good cover of Ewan MacColl’s The First Time Ever (I Saw Your Face). The Temptation’s version of this Irish folk song was beautiful and well done. Supposedly, MacColl hated rock music. So, I wonder what his reaction to this cover would be and if his phenomenal daughter, Kirsty MacColl liked it. The rest of this album was equally as good. But, the album was not as successful as Cloud Nine and The Temptations went back to their original sound after this album. It’s too bad because The Temptations could have re-invented themselves with this album. I even thought it was much much much better than Cloud Nine. This will definitely be added to the collection. Overall, I give this album 4 out of 5.

Next: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars by David Bowie!!!!!
