Album #269 – Let’s Stay Together
Let’s Stay Together is a perfect snapshot of Memphis Soul at its finest. Al Green delivers a solid performance on this album. The title track, Green’s signature song, shows how far soul music has come and where it is going. Green’s vocals ooze sex and it is hard to believe that a few years later he would give this up and become a minister. Thank goodness Rev. Green returned to pop and soul music in the 1980’s. Among the highlights on this album is an amazing cover of The Bee Gees’ hit, How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? Green’s version of this song eclipses the original so much that you think Green wrote it himself. The rest of the album was equally as good, but not as memorable as this album’s title track and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart? Overall, I give this album 4 out of 5.
