Album #300 – New York Dolls
This album was a big disappointment and it did not live up to the hype. The New York Dolls are considered to be one of the innovators of Punk music. And while they deserve the credit, this album was boring to listen to. Every song sounded similar and this album is not memorable at all. I respect the New York Dolls and what they did for music but, I expected more out of this album. Even Todd Rundgren’s production could not save it. The Dolls are better as a live act with their high energy stage show. This album did not represent that aspect and unlike The Stooges, there is no energy or power on this album. The music is punk sounding but it has no impact for me. I expected in your face attitude instead I got mumbling. I expected more. Sadly, The New York Dolls seem to be much better live than on album. Overall, I give this album 2.5 out of 5.
