Album #340 – Shalimar Soundtrack

Album #340

For some reason, the list that I have for the album challenge has the soundtrack to the Bollywood film, Shalimar as being released in 1975. It was not released until 1978. Hopefully, this is the ONLY mix-up on the list I have taken from the Internet. The best way to describe this soundtrack is a cross between James Bond, the blaxploitation films of the early 70’s and Bollywood music. R.D. Burman composed all the music on this album. I can clearly see the link between Burman and A.R. Rahman after having heard this album. Rahman of course is most famous for his score to the hit film, Slumdog Millionaire. The Shalimar soundtrack does the same thing as Slumdog Millionaire’s score. It combines contemporary music, in this case funk and disco, with traditional Indian music. Sadly, this soundtrack did not get much attention outside of the UK. Rahman has won a Golden Globe, Oscar and Grammy for his contribution to Danny Boyle’s epic film. This was definitely a surprise to see on the list. I almost want to see the film to see the music in action. Overall, I give the Shalimar Soundtrack, 4 out of 5.

Next: Tonight’s The Night by Neil Young!!!!
