Album #345 – A Night At The Opera

Album #345

A Night at the Opera is the kind of music from Queen that I know and love. Multiple harmonies, amazing guitar solos, one great song after another. The first two Queen albums on this list were OK but, A Night at the Opera tops the cake. The whole band is in fine form. The album’s two biggest hits: You’re My Best Friend (the first of the group’s hits to be written by bassist John Deacon, who also played electric piano on it) and the classic Bohemian Rhapsody. All the other tracks on this album are just as powerful. I was smiling and rocking along to every song. The studio wizardry by co-producer Roy Thomas Baker is remarkable. To me, Queen is best doing what they are doing on A Night at the Opera. Yes, the arrangements may be inflated and funny but, boy do they sound good!!!  Other highlights include: Death On Two Legs (Dedicated To…) (A great song to kick off this album!!!), I’m In Love With My Car, ’39, Sweet Lady and God Save The Queen (yes, that song done on guitar by Brian May). Overall, I give A Night at the Opera, 5 out of 5.

Next: Red Headed Stranger by Willie Nelson
